Event Photographer Rates
When asked to write a blog on Event Photographer Rates it proved to be an emotive subject but breaking it down there are several factors that one has to take into account.
Firstly, what are the specific event photographer rates requirements of the client?
I always want to make sure that there is an accurate brief, therefore communication is essential.
What are the images to be used for?
Giving the client prepared event images for use on social media as well as the full size images are a good idea so to get the best quality images on display. Also if they are to be used on a website – get the sizes that they will be displayed at and provide them from the PSD copies on file. Compressing a full size JPEG, an already compressed file, can occasionally show unwanted artefacts on the image, it is therefore better to supply the images ready prepared for website use.
Is there any retouching of the images?
This can take time and must be considered when giving any event photographer rates.
Does the client want prints or just digital copies?
Having your own professional printer, I have a large Epson inkjet that can print up-to 480mm x 330mm covers most requirements.
What is the client’s budget? This can provide the client with an idea of what you can produce for the event. Meeting the client in sufficient time before to discuss event photographer rates and any other queries, even on the day, can save a lot of heartache.
Inform the the client of legal obligations such as model releases etc if the images are to be used for any commercial purpose.
What expenses will be incurred in attending the event, travel, overnight stay etc?
Never give the service away, unless it is a charity close to your heart. A potential client may say it will give you great coverage, well if they have approached you then they like your work, don’t sell yourself short.
What can you show the client?
An up to date social media presence is essential, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as well as smart website displaying your skill set.
